Year 5 - Rocket Making - November 2016

On Monday, 21st November our class made foam rockets.  We watched a video to work out how to make them and then Miss Bellingan gave out some material: cable ties, some string, foam tubes, rubber bands, masking tape, a piece of card and instructions.  First, we tied the rubber band to the cable tie, but not too tight, and after that we tied the string to the cable tie.  Secondly, we got the foam tubes and cut them up to 10 centimetres. After that we all got a piece of card and folded it in half, then we cut the folded piece of card into a trapezium, then cut the trapezium into two, cutting one piece of the card at the top and the other piece at the bottom.  We then put the two pieces of card together and put them into our rocket. After that, we put the rubber band, cable tie and the string into the top of our rockets. We put the other cable tie round the top of the rocket and pulled it extremely tight. We put masking tape round the bottom of our rockets so that the pieces of card didn’t come off.  We are looking forward to testing out our rockets.
