Year 4 Howard Carter Trip
On Tuesday, 28th March, Year 4 went to see Howard Carter’s grave at Putney Cemetery. He was the Egyptologist who discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb. We walked there and left some daffodils as a mark of respect. Then we walked to Richmond Park to have a picnic lunch. Afterwards, we marched back to school. I felt very tired when I got back but really happy because it was 100% fun!

Year 4 Sleepover and Activity
On Thursday, 16th March Year 4 had a sleepover. After school finished we went to the KS1 playground for some activities, then we transported our sleeping supplies to the Cedar Building ready for the night. After that, we had supper and then watched a film and drank hot chocolate! Then we went to our dormitories and eventually went to sleep.
The next day, Friday, we went orienteering on Wimbledon Common and came back exhausted but happy. Year 4 really enjoyed it all and can’t wait for more!

Year 4 Explore Egypt
On Wednesday, 8th March Year 4 travelled to the British Museum to look at ancient Egyptian artefacts. In one gallery we looked at genuine sarcophagi, there were even mummified cats and crocodiles! Then we had a picnic lunch in the Ford Centre. Later we went to another gallery and saw huge statues. My favourite thing was the giant granite head of a pharaoh because the whole statue must have been colossal. It was a great day and we can’t wait for our next trip.

Year 4 DT Day
On Tuesday, 7th February Year 4 took part in our DT day and we prepared and made an Ancient Egyptian meal. We mixed our ingredients including spices, herbs, vegetables, cheese and bread to make Egyptian feta salad and Egyptian spiced pitta. Mr Shields made us Egyptian palace bread which was made from honey, bread and sugar. It was delicious! We really enjoyed our DT day.
Last Tuesday was Year 4 DT day so we made sandwiches using ingredients the ancient Egyptians would have used. First, we thought about what they would have eaten and came up with a list of bread, rice, wheat and vegetables. We chose from carrots, cucumber, red cabbage, red onion and spring onion, with spices and black pepper. We put our chosen filings into pitta bread and then ate our sandwiches! They were delicious! Year 4 loved their DT day and can’t wait to do more.

Year 4 Art Day - Tuesday 24th January 2017
For Art day, Year 4 all made something called a cartouche. A cartouche is what ancient Egyptians used to write on. We each got some clay and rolled it into a rectangle shape. After that, we got a blunt pencil and drew the symbols. In ancient Egypt they called them hieroglyphics. We planned out our hieroglyphics on a sheet of paper. We needed lots of detail so it would look good. We started drawing our hieroglyphics on our clay; we had to start over a few times so it looked good. To start over we used a rolling pin. We all used it as a rubber. Some of them weren't that thick so we had to try it again. When it was finished we left it to dry. We needed two bin bags, one on the bottom and one on the top. We left it by the window to dry because it dries quicker in the sun.
