National Curriculum Knowledge Coverage
At Granard we deliver a creative art curriculum that meets the requirements of the EYFS and National Curriculums. We want to inspire, engage and develop children’s enthusiasm for art and design. Focusing on building key skills, each unit secures children’s understanding of observational drawing, sculpture, texture and colour through a range of suggested media. With a key emphasis on the work of different artists, children are taught about artistic practices and styles through history until the present day. Children are taught key skills enabling them to participate in an inclusive art curriculum.
Children are taught to:
The Art Progression Map ensures that all pupils by the end of Year 6 can produce creative work, exploring their ideas, recording their experiences, become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. In addition to this, they are able to evaluate and analyse their own and their peer’s creative works using the language of art, craft and design. Children have clear knowledge about great artists, local artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
In EYFS, the art curriculum is delivered through Expressive Arts and Design (Exploring and Using Media and Materials). Children safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function. An Expressive Arts and Design (Being Imaginative) curriculum, lets children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through Design and Technology, Art, Music, Dance, role play and stories.
