Granard Primary School

"Growing together; Achieving together"

How does the school decide whether a child has a special educational need and what extra help they require?

If a child has a previously identified need, the school will liaise with the services currently involved and with the previous nursery/school to request all relevant information.

We assess all children who are new to the school to baseline their levels and see if they have any special educational needs.

Children are assessed half termly across the school and progress meetings are held to identify areas of need.  Interventions are then put in place to address the needs of children who are not making expected progress.

If we think your child has an additional need, the SENCos will invite you to meet with us and identify the best way to support them and help them to move forward.  We will make a joint decision about placing your child on the SEN register.  We may consult with external service providers (specialists) to advise and help put programmes in place.
