Granard Primary School

"Growing together; Achieving together"

Integration

At Granard, we aspire to provide all pupils with a strong foundation of life skills and promote independence through real-life opportunities where pupils can feel part of and understand their community. With the inclusion of integration we offer pupils personalised opportunities to join lessons outside of their main classroom and access other social opportunities such as special activities or events with their mainstream peers. For some pupils, these opportunities are on a regular basis and built into their timetables.

We also offer opportunities for reverse integration, where pupils from mainstream classes join sessions being led within the Cedar Base, such as prefect support in the playground and shared reading experiences.

Where possible, pupils are invited to attend wider opportunities and learning through attending school trips with mainstream peers. Examples of these are the Barbican Centre, Out of the Woods, Waterstones and local allotments. Such opportunities encourage social communication and aid application of taught skills in their locality and beyond.

In all cases, these sessions are carefully planned and monitored to ensure that they are successful for the individual.
